Sawyers Wholesale Bait

Sawyer's Wholesale is rich with family history!  This fourth generation family business has been in operation since 1954.  It was started by Charles and Frances Sawyer (Grandma Sawyer) as a paint and wallpaper business and in 1955 expanded into live bait and tackle.  When they started in the bait business, they used one truck to deliver bait one day a week.  They have now grown into a three-truck delivery business servicing over 200 bait businesses in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.

The original building of the business no longer stands due to the Highway 3 expansion project of 1970.  However, by 1971 the new and still existing building was erected in their current location.  With great foresight, the Sawyers built a building prepared for growth.  They are able to accommodate a plethora of live bait including night crawlers, red worms, mealworms, bemoths, drift worms, and green night crawlers.  Their six holding tanks can accommodate minnows, goldfish, shiners, suckers, Israeli carp, and Koi.  Other live bait that can be found at Sawyers is crickets, crawdads, leeches, and catalpa worms.  In recent years, Sawyers has started carrying frozen bait as well.  You can find skip jack, shrimp, chicken livers, several flavors of chicken breast and a local favorite, shad.

In 2006, Sawyer's expanded once again when they opened a new retail location in Beech Grove, Indiana, just south of Indianapolis.  The Sawyer family is always looking for new ways to grow and expand their business.  They are eager to find new customers and look forward to satisfying your bait and tackle needs.  If you are a retail bait business located in Southern Indiana or the North-central part of Kentucky and would like information on Sawyer's delivery routes, you can contact them at (812) 256-3131, seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
